I chose this image as an example of texture in photography because it has good texture and a clear point where the eyes are drawn to. This image not only shows great depth, but also has leading lines in each fern that direct the viewer's eyes into the center of the image where there is the most depth. Texture in this photo is accentuated by the depth shown in the center and the shadows under each leaf that lead into it. Because the center is so dark, it also has the most visual weight, pulling the viewer in with depth, leading lines, and visual weight, as well as blurred edges of the photo to create a border around the focal point.
The green monochromatic color scheme also helps accentuate the type of texture in the image, allowing it to show more depth than a black and white image, and a more focused style of texture than a really colorful image. In a black and white image, the difference between positive and negative space would be much more difficult to see. If there were more colors in the image, they could distract from the texture being shown. The simple green color of the image helps to create a balance between blending and contrasting.

For this assignment I walked around my neighborhood to find good examples of texture. I found lots of plants that had good texture outside. I then went inside my house to find more and took some pictures of my dog and cat and various objects. When I found the dandelion, I liked the layers the texture gave to the flower and the simple color yellow to make some textures stand out more. For the cactus, I liked the texture given by the spikes, and took a picture at an angle to the side so that they would show up more than they would if the photo was straight on. For the final picture of the orb, I liked the sparkle texture on the inside so I took some photos of various light and got this final image.
