The articles provided helped me understand the power of adding frames to a photograph. They can really help direct the focus of an image to the main subject, but if they are used wrong, they can distract from it. The first article at digitalphotomentor.com gave a lot of good examples of successful framing in a photograph with many different types of frames, which gave me a good sense of the endless range of possible frames. The second article at picturecorrect.com explained how to make a subject stand out really well without using a frame, which I can use to make my subject stand out well, even with a frame. The final link at digital-photography-school.com explained how framing the subject adds to a photo, so I can make sure how best to frame my subject to make it stand out really well and capture what I am aiming for.
1. For this assignment, I used Aperture Priority mode on my camera so that the subject of each photo would be in clear focus and the frames and backgrounds would be blurred a bit.
2. When I shot these photos, I made sure that my camera was far enough away so that I could crop the final image for better composition. For the frames, I used parts of the landscape so that the images would seem natural and help emphasize the subjects. I think the frames in the photos of my cat could be improved because they are not placed right where I wanted them to be.
3. For my photos, I made sure that the lighting was correct and the sun wouldn't be too bright. I added some contrast and lowered the brilliance so that the bright backgrounds wouldn't be too distracting.
4. If I did this assignment again, I might use a subject that doesn't move so much. When I was shooting my sister as a subject, it was much easier to control where she was and what I could use as a frame, but with my cat, I couldn't control her movement as much so the frames aren't the best.
5. I don't think these photos are the best from all photo classes. I don't think they reflect my best work because the subject wasn't completely controlled the entire time and the composition isn't perfect.
