11/12 Alt. Camera Angles Critique

Updated: Jan 21, 2020

This image is very interesting because at first it appears the log is the ground. It seems like a path that the photographer is walking on. The small branch on the side of the tree looks like another small tree on the side of a path. But when you look closer, you realize that it is actually a tree going into the sky. The other trees around it become more apparent. This worm's eye view makes the image very interesting. The way that the focus is only on the tree a short distance from the camera is also interesting. It draws the viewer's eyes to the tree instead of the background. The other trees in the background become less noticeable until the viewer looks closer. To improve this image, I wold have cropped out the part that includes the real ground over in the bottom left corner. If the real ground is not visible, the photo would be more focused on the "path" in the center. I think it's interesting how the snow sits on the side of the tree like it does because it makes it seem at first like it couldn't be the side of a tree. The snow is probably only there because it froze to the bark. At first, the image doesn't appear very cold because of the warm colors in the tops of the trees. However, when you see the snow on the side of the tree it is startling at first. The farther you get from the camera, the warmer the colors become. I chose this image because of the angle of the camera. I think the worm's eye view is the most interesting angle because people don't usually look up. Most often we view things straight on or from a bird's eye view when we look at things. The worm's eye view shows how small we are even though most people don't think about it.
